Art has expanded my soul, my mind, and my world.
Well when I was a kid art wasn’t really something I would have fun with. I would enjoy it, but I didn’t love it like I do now.
When my mom told me about these art classes I wasn’t looking forward to them very much. I thought to myself “Aw mann, this is going to cut into my weekend time”.
The first class I still remember to present date. Sahar (my art teacher) seemed nice and it seemed like she wasn’t too strict. First thing she told us to do was explain to her what we thought art was. Then after we talked about that, she told us to take out our sketchbooks or a piece of paper. And what she said surprised me; she said scribble all over the page. And well I looked at her as though she was crazy or something. After I did my masterful kindergarten art skills, she told us to find pictures in the scribbles we had just made. Well all I found was a Mickey Mouse Sign, a duck, and a spaceship. In a whole page of scribbles I found those 3.
I thought I had failed the art class already. That she was going to tell my mom I had no artistic skill what so ever. But she looked at me happily and said good job. After that I kept going to art class those Saturdays.
I learned extremely well how to use pastel, I learned oil painting, I learned some sketching, and other fun ways we did art. Now when I do the same thing with the scribbled page, I find a whole world of fantasy. It’s like I was blind 2 years ago when I started art class.
Now when I’m anywhere that has a picture or when I’m in the car looking at clouds bored while my mom won’t let me touch the radio. I always think hmmm… that was made using Pastels, that was used making Oil Paint. Or the artist of this painting used good texture here or there. Or even sometimes I think to myself when I see paintings. PSHHHHTTT this is as fake as the eye can see!! And overall art has expanded my soul, my mind, and my world.
